We spoke with the company’s Chairman of the Board, Orhan YILDIZCAN, about the company’s founding story, its meticulous production processes, and its vision for the future.
First of all, could you introduce yourself? Could you share with us the story of your company’s establishment and the point you have reached today?
I was born in Istanbul in 1969. I became acquainted with the textile industry at a very young age. I went through a long journey in the narrow, weaving field, progressing from apprentice to master. In other words, I am what you might call “self-taught through hands-on experience.” I have always been a curious person—never hesitant to try new things or to work tirelessly to solve problems.
In 2006, I became a partner in the company, which was originally founded in 1978. In 2012, I acquired all the shares and, together with my son and son-in-law, transformed the business into a family-owned company.
Why did you decide to focus on ekstrafor production, and what sets you apart in this field?
I began my professional life in narrow weaving. Our experience in this area naturally guided us toward extrafor production over time. Our years of expertise, innovative perspective, and dedication to quality are what distinguish us within the industry.
Which product groups do you prioritize in your production line? Which of your products are in the highest demand?
We produce curtain gathering extrafor, curtain stiffeners (tarlatan), and curtain rollers for the home textile sector. Additionally, we manufacture narrow weaving products for the garment accessories industry.
We are capable of producing items ranging from 1 mm to 200 mm in width. In the curtain extrafor category alone, we offer nearly 1,000 different varieties.
Quality and durability are critical elements in extrafor products. How do you ensure consistent quality?
For us, quality is not something that is “checked”—it is something that is produced. We have adopted the principle of doing things right the first time, continuously improving our processes, and making quality a way of life. We operate with a quality approach that fully meets the expectations of both our internal and external customers.
You have an extensive customer portfolio. Are your operations primarily focused on the domestic market or on exports?
Today, Toplu Tekstil has become a well-recognized brand in the home textile sector. We respond to special order requests with a boutique service approach.
We export to numerous countries across the Russian Federation region, Europe, Africa, the Americas, and Asia, with a particular emphasis on the European market.
In the domestic market, we are a strong supplier for home textile companies. For us, customer satisfaction—both domestically and internationally—is always a top priority.
Turkey’s strength in global textile markets continues to grow. How do you assess the country’s position in the extrafor segment specifically?
As a company exporting to five continents, I can confidently say that Turkish-made extrafor products hold a strong position in the global market. I believe this strength will continue to increase in the years ahead.
How are innovation and R&D processes carried out within your company?
With our state-of-the-art machinery and technical team, we provide solutions to customer needs in the shortest possible time. In addition to our in-house R&D activities, we also develop products based on the specific requests of our clients. Customer focus is at the core of everything we do.
What steps have you taken regarding sustainability and environmentally friendly production?
Sustainability is a significant issue for us. Since our products are used in living spaces, we source our raw materials from reliable suppliers whose materials have successfully passed all required tests. The products we manufacture are also tested and certified by authorized institutions.
How have digitalization and automation impacted your production processes?
With digitalization, productivity, product quality, and data accuracy have all increased. Through periodic inspections, we keep employee safety at the highest level. These advancements have provided significant advantages for our company in terms of sustainability.
How do you see the future of extrafor production? What will be the biggest challenges for the sector in the coming period?
Although the market experiences periodic fluctuations, extrafor remains an essential product in living spaces. For this reason, demand will continue to persist.
Could you share your company’s future goals and vision? What advice would you give to young entrepreneurs?
We continue to work today with the same colleagues who have been with us since the company’s founding. Our foremost priority has always been customer satisfaction.
My personal principle has always been: “Whatever you do, do it with passion.”
We will continue to produce new and high-quality products based on customer needs and work to carry our name even further.
I would also like to share a beautiful quote from Henry Ford for young entrepreneurs:
