We talked with Mustafa Furkan Birgül, deputy general manager of Gülsan aluminium, which serves 17 different sectors, especially the curtain sector, and the company’s activities, values and objectives.
First of all, could you tell us about the structuring and activity areas of your company?
Our company was established in 2007 and carries out aluminum profile production in Hadımköy, Istanbul. we have a speed of rapid expansion in many areas due to its equity capital, principle employees and being a company that follows constant innovations. Our company serves 17 sectors. We produce all products that affect human life.
What are the competitive advantages that make Gülsan stand out against its competitors? Why should customers choose Gülsan Alüminyum?
The only opinion of our company is that we are applying the promise of “customer is valuable”. Instead of doing cheap work, we make and sell valuable products. When we go to the company connections, we are talking about the quality and deadlines, not the price first. This makes us different from our competitors because we put our conversation into practice. When we add our spirit of artisans together with being an industrialist, then our life’s part comes into play in Gülsan.
What is your company’s stance on R&D?
Our company invests heavily in Research and Development. We do not say that a standard outgoing product is already sold, but we are constantly trying to develop new products, and we definitely produce new products every 2 years. For the moment, we will provide 3 different new products for slot products in the culvert sector, allowing our customers to do the same job in less time and with less effort.
we should also talk about the pandemic process. How did you find the road map of the industry during this pandemic period? How was your progress in this process?
In the pandemic process or in times of crisis, the aluminum sector always exits by putting something on it. The pandemic process was a difficult process, but instead of being desperate and continuing with the psychology of disease, we as Gulsan took our precautions and continued to produce without deceleration. We eliminated our shortcomings in our factory, made renovations, held meetings for new investments, filled our stocks.
What were your goals, plans and expectations for the first half of 2020? Have there been any deviations due to the pandemic process?
2020 had started better than ever. As a sector, it was always lower than the other months between December and March. However, we broke sales records until the half of January, February and March of 2020, then the pandemic period started and we got our worries.
What were the measures you took regarding your employees during this process? What changes have you made regarding working hours and working conditions?
With the start of the process, we immediately took all precautions for my staff, separated the entrance and exit locations, changed the hours of public places such as dining halls, and increased our number of services. We did not change our general working hours. We gave our employees with chronic illness to tkae leave.
Do you have any new investment plans in the coming period?
We have new ongoing investment now. We started to build our new factory that will be established on an area of 15,000 m2. We’ve ordered the new machine lane. We will continue to serve as a fully integrated facility in approximately 14 months.
Could you tell us about your export points and targets for the upcoming period?
We export to more than 30 countries on 4 continents, mainly from the Balkans, Turkic States and Africa. We are continuing our infrastructure and market research activities for the periods ahead and we are aiming to acquire a more serious share in the Americas.
